2026 Update: Thanks to the encouragement of readers as an outgrowth of this 2025 article, I am now writing a book that offers more comprehensive material on how we can adapt palliative care principles for our aging or ill pets. The book incorporates multiple stories and practical examples from pet parents and veterinary professionals.
Pet owners often struggle with the decisions of how to best care for aging or ill beloved pets. Between the extremes of “do everything” and “do nothing,” there is an alternative…using a palliative care approach.
